On the occasion of its second participation in MIA Photo Fair BNP Paribas, Lo Magno artecontemporanea presents a project bringing together the practices of three Sicilian artists: Nanni Licitra, Rossana Taormina, and Emanuele Giuffrida.
The selection investigates the transformations of photographic imagery and the ways in which memory, landscape, and perception intersect in the construction of the visible. Through distinct approaches, the artists explore territories where reality is modified and layered, generating new readings of the relationship between natural and artificial, presence and trace.
In Rossana Taormina’s work, archival photographs are recovered and subjected to manual interventions that alter their surface and meaning, activating a dialogue between collective memory and personal perception. Nanni Licitra focuses on the so-called “transformed belt” of southeastern Sicily, a landscape shaped by intensive horticulture: his images are often realized or presented on unconventional supports, including the plastic of the greenhouses, which becomes an active part of the visual narrative. Emanuele Giuffrida develops a practice that translates inner photographic visions into graphite drawings, transforming the image into an essential synthesis of light, line, and memory.
Founded in Sicily, Lo Magno artecontemporanea fosters contemporary artistic research rooted in the local context while maintaining an active dialogue with the international scene. The gallery program supports artists whose work combines a strong connection to place with a rigorous and experimental visual language.
