MODICA- Lo Magno artecontemporanea presenterà una bipersonale degli artisti Ignazio Cusimano Schifano ed Emanuele Giuffrida alla 18^edizione di ArtVerona 2023, in programma a Veronafiere dal 13 al 15 ottobre, con preview riservata il 12 ottobre.
“Valorizzare e promuovere il sistema dell’arte italiano con rinnovate sinergie e risorse” con la direzione artistica di Stefano Raimondi, ArtVerona conferma la propria ineccepibile presenza all’interno dell’universo del contemporaneo con una selezione di 135 gallerie partecipanti e sei sezioni espositive oltre alle editorie e agli spazi no profit.
La galleria modicana, nota per l’indagine e la sperimentazione dei movimenti artistici del terriotorio siciliano, esporrà allo stand 5 del padiglione 12 – INNOVA, sezione dedicata all’approfondimento della ricerca sui linguaggi contemporanei.
A parete, in dialogo, ci saranno i lavori di due artisti, entrambi palermitani, che da tempo collaborano con la realtà Lo Magno: Ignazio Cusimano Schifano ed Emanuele Giuffrida
Emanuele Giuffrida | Reconaissence Patterns
“Hai presente il fenomeno della pareidolia? È un fenomeno subcosciente che crea l’illusione di similitudine tra un oggetto dalla forma a noi nota e uno dalla forma casuale. Ecco. Per me è un ossessione da sempre”
Emanuele Giuffrida (Gela, 1981), artista poetico ed introspettivo, si racconta attraverso un percorso tra le sue “illusioni subconscie”. Una pareidolia forzata, densa di significanti per la vita dell’artista, che, per rendere ancora più leggibile il processo creativo prende in prestito un termine dal suo più comune uso nel linguaggio scacchistico: “Reconaissence Patterns”: applicazione per schemi o modelli visivi
Gela anni ‘90: “Ricordo da bambino, nei telegiornali locali, immagini di sagome distese per terra coperte da un lenzuolo bianco, era quasi all’ordine del giorno. Persino attraverso il finestrino della fiat 500 di mio papà, la sera, di ritorno a casa, assistetti a una scena simile; Tant’è che a scuola elementare, illustrando un dettato della maestra sull’argomento mafia, disegnai due figure in moto col casco che sparavano ad un uomo già avvolto in un lenzuolo fluttuante”.
Esperienze infantili rielaborate, trovano una bizzarra analogia con immagini legate ai linguaggi classici della pittura e della scultura – Le pieghe del lenzuolo bianco alludono al paragone con il panneggio delle vestigia delle statue greco-romane; restituendone prepotentemente un valore estetico, come fosse un’opera di rivalsa.
In mostra anche una serie di carte dedicata alla morte di Salvo Lima, soggetto scelto non per idiolatria o tributo a immagini di false divinità, ma per rendere chiaro il proprio intento di libertà all’interno di contenuti vissuti legati alla propria terra.
Tutto – per Emanuele – può essere veicolo di estetica ridondante, strutturalismo che trova sede nelle tragedie più contemporanee

Ignazio Cusimano Schifano (Palermo, 1976) inizia il progetto About Flowers nel luglio di quest’anno, inaugurando con la sua personale gli spazi di “Bassi Beneventano”, seconda sede per Lo Magno artecontemporanea.
Impulsivo e geniale, Ignazio, trova amore nel proprio fare, nell’essenza delle proprie azioni, tacitamente si lascia guidare da quello che è un naturale processo interiore.
Ogni tratto diventa espressione di una parte del proprio sé, donata con genuina voglia di condivisione di un tempo intimo e anacronistico con riferimento alla sua precedente professione di restauratore di pregio. Questa emerge sempre come una sorta di sigillo e da spazio al sentimento dell’antico come principio fondante di tutte le cose. Ad esso si sposa uno sguardo attento, inquieto, difforme, sulla realtà -esteriore ed interiore- che costituisce la ragione più profonda e più vera del suo fare pittura.
About Flowers ha segnato un momento estremamente significativo nel percorso di vita e d’arte di Ignazio Cusimano Schifano, un genuino processo di rinascita che inizia circa un anno fa nella prestigiosa esperienza di residenza artistica presso il Museo Trame Mediterranee-Fondazione Orestiadi di Gibellina, rinascita continuata con esiti fortunati per pregevolezza e risultati artistici nella sua produzione più recente che costituisce la totalità delle opere in mostra.

MODICA – Lo Magno artecontemporanea will present a bipersonal exhibition of the artists Ignazio Cusimano Schifano and Emanuele Giuffrida at the 18th edition of ArtVerona 2023, scheduled at Veronafiere from 13 to 15 October, with a reserved preview on 12 October.
“Enhancing and promoting the Italian art system with renewed synergies and resources” with the artistic direction of Stefano Raimondi, ArtVerona confirms its impeccable presence within the contemporary universe with a selection of 135 participating galleries and six exhibition sections in addition to publishing houses and non-profit spaces.
Lo Magno gallery, known for the investigation and experimentation of the artistic movements of the Sicilian territory, will exhibit at booth 5 of pavilion 12 – INNOVA, section dedicated to the in-depth research on contemporary languages.
The dialogue will be between two artists, both from Palermo, who have long collaborated with the Lo Magno reality: Ignazio Cusimano Schifano and Emanuele Giuffrida
Emanuele Giuffrida | Reconaissence Patterns
“Do you know the phenomenon of pareidolia? It is a subconscious phenomenon that creates the illusion of similarity between an object with a shape known to us and one with a random shape. There! It’s always been an obsession for me.”
Emanuele Giuffrida (Gela, 1981), a poetic and introspective artist, tells his story with a journey through his “subconscious illusions”.
A forced pareidolia, full of meanings for the artist’s life. Emanuele borrows a term from its most common use in chess language: “Reconaissence Patterns” to make the reading of his creative process easier. The meaning is: application for patterns, simile for visual patterns, structures that tend to repeat.
Gela 90s: “When I was child, I remember images of silhouettes lying on the ground covered by a white sheet broadcaasted by the TV news of my city. I witnessed a similar scene even through the window of my dad’s Fiat 500, on the way home in the evening. When I was in elementary school, illustrating a teacher’s dictation on the subject of the mafia, I drew two figures on motorbikes with helmets shooting to a man already wrapped in a floating sheet.”
Reworked childhood experiences find a bizarre analogy with images linked to the classical languages of painting and sculpture – The folds of the white sheet allude to the similarity with the drapery of the remains of the Greek-Roman Statues -; forcefully restoring an aesthetic value as if it were a work of revenge.
On display there will be a series of papers dedicated to the death of Salvo Lima. The subject was chosen not for idiolatry or tribute to images of false divinities, but to make clear one’s intent for freedom within lived contents linked to one’s land.
Everything – for Emanuele – can be a vehicle of redundant aesthetics, structuralism that finds its home in the most contemporary tragedies

Ignazio Cusimano Schifano (Palermo, 1976) began the About Flowers project in July this year, inaugurating with his solo exhibition the spaces of “Bassi Beneventano”, the second headquarters for Lo Magno artecontemporanea.
Both Impulsive and brilliant, Ignazio finds love in what he does, in the essence of his actions, he tacitly lets himself be guided by what is a natural internal process.
Each stroke becomes an expression of a part of his self given with a genuine desire to share an intimate and anachronistic time. This time is linked to his previous profession as a prestigious art conservator which always emerges as a sort of seal on his previous profession as a prestigious restorer and consequently the feeling of the ancient as the founding principle of all things.
It is combined with an attentive, restless, dissimilar look at reality – external and internal – which constitutes the deepest and truest reason for his painting.
About Flowers marked an extremely significant moment both in the life and art journey of Ignazio Cusimano Schifano, a genuine process of rebirth that began about a year ago in the prestigious experience of artistic residency at the Museo Trame Mediterranee-Fondazione Orestiadi in Gibellina, rebirth continued with successful results in terms of excellence and artistic results in his most recent production which constitutes the totality of the works on display.
