Scicli – Domenica 28 dicembre alle ore 18 inaugura Materiale residuo, il nuovo progetto fotografico di Nanni Licitra.
La mostra sarà ospitata in anteprima negli spazi Lo Magno artecontemporanea a Palazzo Beneventano, e nel 2026 al Mia Photo Fair di Milano, offrendo al pubblico un’indagine visiva sulla Fascia trasformata della Sicilia sud-orientale, tra Vittoria e Marina di Acate: un territorio segnato da decenni di serricoltura intensiva, accumuli di rifiuti agricoli e combustioni illegali che rilasciano nell’aria fumi persistenti e tossici.
Accompagnato dai testi di Valentina Bruschi, Jasmina Trifoni e Francesca Gugliotta, il racconto, si sviluppa lontano dalla logica del reportage. Licitra non concentra l’attenzione sulla cronaca, ma su ciò che la combustione lascia sospeso: un alone, una materia volatile, un residuo che si imprime nella luce.
Le sue immagini – serigrafate direttamente sulla plastica impiegata in agricoltura – trasformano il supporto in essenza, generando un cortocircuito tra soggetto e superficie che richiama la riflessione di Magritte sul rapporto tra realtà e rappresentazione.
Ad ampliare l’indagine è un trittico di lightbox che mette in relazione la radiografia del torace di un operaio agricolo con le piante bruciate di pomodoro e melanzana, mettendo in luce un legame di pari destino e stessa fatica tra uomo e natura. Completano il percorso, insieme alla serigrafie su plastica, due foto scattate su pellicola 35mm in cui Licitra si avvicina alla materia – condensa, fori di combustione, superfici ferite – in cui a rivelarsi è la vulnerabilità del paesaggio.
Materiale residuo è una riflessione sull’antropocentrismo e sul fragile equilibrio tra territorio, corpi, ed ecosistemi: un lavoro che restituisce e imprime in chi osserva la memoria degli scarti, del fumo, delle trasformazioni silenziose che ridisegnano il paesaggio contemporaneo.

Scicli – On Sunday, 28 December at 6:00 PM, Materiale Residuo, the new photographic project by Nanni Licitra, opens to the public.
The exhibition will premiere in the spaces of Lo Magno artecontemporanea at Palazzo Beneventano and will later be presented in 2026 at Mia Photo Fair in Milan. The project offers a visual investigation of the so-called Fascia trasformata of south-eastern Sicily, between Vittoria and Marina di Acate: a territory marked by decades of intensive greenhouse farming, accumulations of agricultural waste, and illegal burnings that release persistent and toxic fumes into the air.
Accompanied by texts by Valentina Bruschi, Jasmina Trifoni, and Francesca Gugliotta, the narrative unfolds far from the logic of reportage. Licitra does not focus on events themselves, but on what combustion leaves suspended behind: a haze, a volatile matter, a residue that imprints itself into the light.
His images—screen-printed directly onto the plastic used in agriculture—transform the support into essence, creating a short circuit between subject and surface that recalls Magritte’s reflections on the relationship between reality and representation.
Expanding the investigation is a triptych of lightboxes that juxtaposes the chest X-ray of an agricultural worker with burned tomato and eggplant plants, revealing a shared destiny and common labor between human beings and nature. Completing the exhibition path, alongside the plastic screen prints, are two photographs shot on 35mm film in which Licitra approaches matter itself—condensation, burn holes, wounded surfaces—where the vulnerability of the landscape is laid bare.
Materiale residuo is a reflection on anthropocentrism and on the fragile balance between territory, bodies, and ecosystems: a body of work that returns to the viewer—and imprints upon them—the memory of waste, smoke, and the silent transformations that reshape the contemporary landscape.
